Don’t Underestimate the Power of Your Actions
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd. “I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends in the tomorrow), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.
As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.
Joyous Greetings
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine (Proverb 17:22) Wouldn’t the world be a better place for everyone if people would begin to spread a little joy around? Three words have been coined to help begin thoughtful discussion leading to actions causing a ripple effect to bring more joy into people’s lives. These three words are:
- Joyism,
- Joyology, and
- Joyologist
The concept of Joyism is not a difficult one to master or to put into effect; nor is it a brand new invention. The idea is that when people think and talk about joy, they begin to feel good. Their expressions change and they perceive their world from an optimistic viewpoint. People who think of joy smile, and others smile back. And so it grows. What a powerful gift to bring to the world around us!
